Current Practice
Dandelion Seeds (2011)
I am interested in the psychology of fine art and creativity, particularly the role that the unconscious plays in my artistic practice. Analysing not only the artwork produced but also the artists’ approach to, and experience of making work can provide interesting psychological insight.
In my own practice there is a preoccupation with vulnerability; fragile structures that show a sensitivity to their environment. Paying attention to the minutaie of life as a way of gaining a deeper understanding of the larger questions. In my approach I am committed to developing a receptive stance. Reducing the need to have control over the work and encouraging elements of chance allows unconscious aspects to be revealed.

Practice Development
Talc Door (2011)
I would like to explore the experiential and therapeutic aspects of artistic practice further. To examine the artists own understanding of their fine art practice, their motivations for creating and how the practice reflects their personality and underlying psychology.
“Why can’t anything work the way you want it to?” (artists comment)
For example, this overheard comment made by an artist at work in the studio reflects my own ongoing wrestle with practice being an attempt to make things as we wish them to be versus an exploration of the way things just are.

Methodology
Seed Sculpture (2011)
My methodology will involve an analysis of my own and others artistic practices. I am interested in listening how artists articulate how their artworks come about. Through the use of semi-structured interviews and discourse analysis. This can be combined with theoretical study and I would look to collaborate with certain theoretical aspects of MA Art Therapy courses.
In addition, I will be experimenting and refining my own methodology, exploring techniques that incorporate elements of chance or are beyond the artists control in some way. Also looking at ways of presenting the psychological/experiential aspects of my work asartwork.

Future
Foil Crinkle (2009)
I would like to be involved in research and analysis into the therapeutic potential of fine art. To gain an in depth understanding of the psychological, emotional and even the physiological effects of being involved in creativity.
I hope to be in a position to advise on the creation of and initiate projects to transform environments therapeutically. I aim to make the need for artistic and creative environments in everyday life more apparent and acheivable.
I would like to have developed my own practice to the extent where I am able to exhibit work that adequately conveys the emotional and psychological journey that has been my experience of creating.
